Kessel Sabacc is the new Sabacc variant that is playable in the video game Star Wars Outlaws. This exciting variant is playable with any 62-card Spike Deck, like those from Galaxy’s Edge or the Halcyon. In this blog post, we’ll guide you through the steps of playing Kessel Sabacc, so you can bring the Pyke Cardroom to your next game night.
What You Need
To play Kessel Sabacc, you’ll need a 62-card Spike Deck. These Sabacc decks are available on our website, at Galaxy’s Edge or when you were aboard the Halcyon. The deck includes 60 standard cards and 2 “Sylop” cards. You’ll also need two six-sided dice, known as “Spike” dice, which add an element of unpredictability to Corellian Spike and Traditional Sabacc.
Kessel Sabacc contains 44 cards, including three cards from each family (each color) with the values of 1-6, the impostor, and then 2 sylops.
A Kessel Sabacc deck has a new specialty card called the Impostor. The Impostor cards take the result value of a dice throw during the reveal phase. We turn our ten cards into Impostors while playing Kessel Sabacc.
So, to play Kessel Sabacc with the Galaxy’s Edge deck, Coruscant Shift deck, or any other 62 card Sabacc deck, simply pull out the following cards:
Three of each -1 through -6 cards
Three of each +1 through +6 cards
The 2 Sylops
Three -10s, three +10s (to be used as the 6 needed impostors)
Decks and Dice
The easiest deck to play with is our Corellian Spike deck, which has the dice numbers on it. While you don’t need the dice numbers on it to play, it makes it easier to associate dice rolls from the Impostor card. We designed our Corellian Spike deck a few years before we knew what the dice face symbols meant, so we guessed the values. According to the following chart from Star Wars Outlaws, we mixed up three of our symbols, the 1, 5, and 6. But this doesn’t make much difference since we just based the dice roll off of the associated card value and symbol.
If you play with any other 62 card deck, you can use this chart to help you know what the spike dice symbols value. You can use the dice from the Galaxy’s Edge deck or pick up a metal spike dice set on our website. Alternatively, you could also use regular six sided dice to play with and not have to learn the new symbol values.
