One of the coolest prop details we’ve seen from The Mandalorian and Grogu is the New Republic wanted card deck.
When the first trailer released, we only got a quick look at a single card. It appeared to show an unknown wanted individual, and the card called the Ace of Staves. At the time, that one glimpse raised a lot of questions. Was this a full deck? Was it based on Sabacc? Was it just a one-off prop?
Now that more cards have been seen, we’ve been able to study the details more closely, and the deck is turning out to be even more interesting.
From what we can tell so far, this appears to be a 62-card Spike and Shift-style deck, reimagined through the lens of the New Republic. Instead of standard card faces, the deck functions as a galactic wanted list, with each card featuring a different target.
That concept alone is incredible. A New Republic intelligence tool, a bounty reference, and a playable card deck all rolled into one.
A Deck Full of Wanted Imperials
The idea behind the deck is simple, but extremely fun: each card represents someone the New Republic is hunting. This is not a normal card deck with a simple graphic slapped on top. It feels like something a New Republic general would actually carry around.
The design also has a very distinct look. The cards appear to have an embossed or stamped feel, giving them a more official, tactical, government-issued style. The numbering system is also unusual, which makes the deck even more fun to study. It is not just a direct copy of existing Sabacc decks. It has its own design language, and that makes recreating it a really exciting challenge.
Our Version of the New Republic Wanted Deck
We’ve already started working on our own version of this New Republic wanted deck. We are still early in the process, but the more we uncover, the more excited we get. This deck has the potential to be one of the most unique Sabacc-inspired releases we’ve worked on.
A Community-Built Wanted Deck
One of the best parts of this project is that we want to involve the community.
Instead of filling the deck with generic faces, we are hoping to work with our Guild Members and ORSL Members to help create the wanted portraits used throughout the deck. The plan is to begin collecting images in the next month or so. We’ll be looking for community members in Imperial Officer costumes, that would make sense as New Republic wanted targets.
That means this deck will be more than just a replica deck. It will become a snapshot of the community itself. A deck filled with real members of the galaxy we all love creating together.
What Comes Next
We are currently working through the design details and studying the references that are available. As more information becomes clear, we’ll continue refining the deck so it captures the look and feel of the cards as closely as possible.
If everything goes according to plan, we hope to start gathering community images soon and then release the finished deck for purchase a month or two after that.
This is still a developing project, but it is one we are extremely excited about.
