When the lights dimmed aboard Disney’s Galactic Starcruiser for the last time, many fans assumed they’d never again lay eyes on one of its most mesmerizing creations — the glowing Sabacc Holotable. But at Halcy-Con 2, the team from Sabacc for Charity changed that forever.
The table wasn’t just a display piece. It was alive and fully functional, meticulously engineered, and built from scratch by three passionate fans who refused to let the Starcruiser’s legacy fade.

The Original HoloTable
Here is our first look at the original HoloTable for reference. This was not only our first time on the table, but also our first time playing Coruscant Shift. We decided to just “figure it out.” See my initial review after playing for the first time. It’s funny how things change as we learn more.
The Team Behind the Table
In our exclusive interview, Emily sat down with the creators, Cyl, Matthew, and Jonathan, to learn how their vision became reality.
- Cyl handled all of the programming, writing the code for every light pulse, sound, and animation.
- Matthew tackled the hardware and wiring, sourcing every part and bringing the table’s guts to life.
- Jonathan, the heart of the project, led visual design, crafting the digital art and layout.
Together, they jokingly describe themselves as the heart, body, and nervous system of the Holotable, a fitting metaphor for a creation that hums with life.
A Year in the Making
The project began just a week after the first Halcy-Con event. Over the next year, the trio poured hundreds of hours and plenty of late nights into making their vision real.
From the first sketch to the final assembled table, nearly every aspect was handcrafted: the physical shell, the lighting logic, the custom software, and even the 3D-printed components that tie the build together.
“It was a labor of love,” Jonathan shared. “Countless hours, a lot of blood, sweat, and tears, but we wanted to prove that fans could bring the Starcruiser back in our own way.”
Playability Over Perfection
Just like the Starcruiser Holotable, this recreation is fully playable. It runs Coruscant Shift, the same version featured on the Halcyon, and uses real buttons, not a touchscreen, to keep the Star Wars aesthetic authentic.
“In Star Wars, you don’t see touchscreens,” Cyl explained. “You see blinking lights, switches, and tactile controls. We wanted that same feeling. something that belongs in-universe.”
Even the glitches were part of the fun. During Halcy-Con 2, the team made live updates to the software between matches, refining sensitivity and responsiveness in real time.
Charity First: The Heart of the Mission
True to their name, the Sabacc for Charity team didn’t build the Holotable for fame or profit. Every event they host raises funds for real-world causes. At Halcy-Con 2, proceeds went to Blood Cancer United, chosen in honor of a friend who benefited from their support.
By the end of the weekend, the group had raised over $1,400, selling out all eight tables for the Coruscant Shift tournament by the second day and adding fans to a waiting list.
Sponsors like Hyperspace Props, Emerald Armory, Clever 3D Studio, and Off World Exports donated prizes and support for the tournament.
The Community That Built a Galaxy
Sabacc for Charity started as a small group of friends in Florida who fell in love with the game. As interest grew, they began hosting tournaments, crafting trophies, and eventually organizing larger charity events.
For Cyl, the group offered something even more meaningful: “I came in with social anxiety, but this community made me feel welcome from day one. Sabacc became family.” That sentiment is something that we share and I know many others also feel the same way.
Keeping the Starcruiser Spirit Alive
The Holotable project isn’t just a replica, it’s a resurrection. It represents everything that made the Halcyon special: collaboration, immersion, and heart. And while Disney’s Starcruiser voyage may have ended, fans like the Sabacc for Charity crew ensure its legacy endures across conventions and gaming tables everywhere.
“We don’t need to wait for someone else to bring the galaxy to life,” Jonathan said. “We can build it ourselves.”
