The recent trailer for The Mandalorian & Grogu gave us a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment that has massive implications for Sabacc players!

In one scene, Din Djarin is handed a single card by what appears to be Sigourney Weaver’s character, a New Republic colonel. The card shows a vague humanoid outline. No name. No rank. No numbers visible. There does, however, seem to be a triangle suit on it.

And then Mando says:

“We’ll take out every bad guy in your deck of cards.”

What Is This Deck?

We only see one card. It’s the classic Sabacc card coffin shape, dark-toned, with a stark outline of a human figure. I wonder if we are shown the back of the card, and the front has all of the details for the person that needs to be hunted.

Is this even a game deck at all?

The only thing similar is the shape of the card, a card suit triangle, and potentially this is the number “7” since it is similar design as the “spiky 7” card of Corellian Spike.

A New Republic “Most Wanted” Deck?

If you’ve read the Star Wars: Aftermath trilogy, you may remember that the New Republic used a deck of playing cards featuring Imperial war criminals.

Is It Connected to Sabacc?

Not directly, at least not that we can tell right now. It’s possible as we see more of the cards, we’ll be able to tell more about it. It would be really cool to have a sabacc deck themed like this anyway.

Are We Going to Make This Deck?

Here’s the thing about Star Wars props, if it appears on screen long enough, fans will want to hold it.

Right now, we’ve only seen a single card: a dark-toned design with a humanoid silhouette and angular edges. That’s not enough to recreate it faithfully. If we get more information about the cards and see enough to extrapolate the other cards, then yes, we’ll start working on it.

Final Thoughts

The Mandalorian & Grogu trailer was awesome! I really hope that they show enough cards with enough detail so that we can recreate it as a fully playable sabacc deck. We’ll just have to wait and see.

I am very interested to see who all is nefarious and infamous enough to make the New Alliance’s most wanted deck. Along with that, HSP does such high-quality work, I’d even be interested in a deck that was only partially ‘canon’ based and the rest made up based on HSP and Guild input!

The most wanted deck idea has been around while, and not just for people – also things that need to be watched out for and recognized. I always thought was ‘just a thing’, meme-worthy or very nearly so, but when this very scene and topic came up at work, there were a few who asked what the heck I was talking about.

So for those that don’t know, here’s a small bit of background for you: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Most-wanted_Iraqi_playing_cards

I think a really cool idea would be for Hyperspace Props to make custom bounty Sabacc cards for customers to send in their own photos and be on the cards. If you could order 1 card to an entire deck of cards with your friends pics as bounties, that would be fun.

We see 2 cards from the deck. The blank card for Coin was the second card. The first card we see is the guy that Mando went after in the opening of the movie (Commander Barro iirc). We see him give the card back to Colonel Ward. That card also has his face on it.
