How to Use Shift Tokens

Shift Tokens can be played in addition to your regular turn, allowing you to activate special effects that impact the game. Each player can bring up to three Shift Tokens into a match, and understanding when to deploy them is key to outmaneuvering your opponents.

THe Shift TOkens should be viewed as additional chips and be saved until you can get the full impact of each token. An example would be to only play the Refund Token when you actually have two chips in the pot. What Do the Shift Tokens Do?

Here’s a rundown of the known Shift Tokens and their effects:

1. Free Draw – Allows you to draw a card without paying the usual chip cost.
2. Refund – Retrieve two chips from the pot.
3. Extra Refund – Retrieve three chips, giving you a significant chip advantage.
4. Embezzlement – Steal one chip from each player’s pot, boosting your own.
5. Major Fraud – Sets the Impostor card’s value to six, increasing your chances of winning with this risky card.
6. General Tariff – All other players are taxed one chip, adding pressure on your opponents.
7. Target Tariff – Tax a specific player two chips, directly targeting a strong competitor.
8. General Audit – Forces all standing players to pay two chips, potentially crippling their resources.
9. Immunity – Shields you from other players’ Shift Token effects until the next reveal.
10. Exhaustion – Force a player to discard and draw a new hand, disrupting their strategy.
11. Direct Transaction – Trade hands with another player, a bold move that can flip the game.
12. Embargo – Forces the next player to stand, limiting their options.
13. Markdown – Set Sylop value to 0 until next reveal.
14. Target Audit – Choose a player in Stand. They are taxed 3 chips.
15. Cook the Books – Inverts Sabacc ranks until the next reveal.
16. Prime Sabacc – Roll two dice. Pick one value as the new best sabacc.
    

Strategy for Using Shift Tokens

Timing is everything with Shift Tokens. For example, using Target Tariff or General Audit when an opponent is low on chips can push them out of the game. Immunity is best played when you anticipate an aggressive move from an opponent or to protect a Sylop or Imposter hand. Meanwhile, Exhaustion and Direct Transaction can be game-changers when you’re holding a weak hand and want to shake things up.
